ABOUT US

About SmartBudgetNotes

SmartBudgetNotes is a website about managing everyday money in a practical way. It covers the basics that most people run into sooner or later: how to build a budget that holds up past the first month, how much to keep in savings, what to do about debt, and where monthly spending quietly leaks away.

We write for people who don’t have a finance background and don’t want one. That means plain language, worked examples with real numbers, and step-by-step instructions you can follow with a spreadsheet or a free app.

What you’ll find here

  • Budgeting basics: methods like 50/30/20 and zero-based budgeting, explained with examples
  • Saving and emergency funds: how much to set aside and how to make saving automatic
  • Debt and credit: repayment strategies and how credit scores work
  • Everyday spending: subscriptions, monthly bills, and grocery costs
  • Tools and templates: budgeting apps and spreadsheet setups
  • Income and life stages: irregular income, couples, and other situations where standard advice falls short

How we work

Every article aims to answer one question clearly and stop. We use examples instead of vague claims, we link to original sources when we cite a figure, and we update articles when rates, rules, or products change. When we recommend a tool or service, we say why, and we tell you if we earn a commission from it.

What we are not

SmartBudgetNotes is an educational site. We aren’t financial advisors, and our articles aren’t personal advice. For decisions about your own situation, a qualified professional is the right person to ask. Our disclaimer explains this in more detail.
